I’ve been test-driving both Foursquare and Gowalla from a game perspective for a few weeks now. Both are location based services that allow you to virtually ‘check in’ at locations. To cut to the chase: I prefer Gowalla. It’s more akin to a game (for lack of a better word) than Foursquare currently is, but it’s not exactly saying much. Both services seem to lack clout at the moment.
First there’s Foursquare. The idea behind the service is chiefly to track check-ins at various locations. Checking in the most at a spot earns you the title of mayor. Secondly, there’s Gowalla. The idea behind this service is still to check in at various locations and, sure enough, it also tracks whoever checks in the most at a spot. But instead of earning titles, you earn virtual items.

Daredevil / Daredevil-Seeker
According to BrainHex.com I’m a class Daredevil gamer. Even better, my sub-class seems to be a Daredevil-Seeker, or in plain English:
You like rushing around at heights or high speed while you are still in control as well as finding strange and wonderful things or finding familiar things.
Which corresponds quite well with how I play games. High-speed efficiency in games is something that really provides a kick; playingSuper Metroid in one continuous flow of perfectly executed abilities is one of my most loved game experiences. Getting a perfect lap in WipEout HD also has that same feeling attached to it.
Not so surprisingly, according to my scores I’m not quite the Achiever:
- Daredevil: 18
- Seeker: 18
- Mastermind: 15
- Conqueror: 12
- Survivor: 10
- Socialiser: 9
- Achiever: 3
Explaining neatly why I don’t care that much about Achievements and Trophies I guess. Though why did I collect all blast shards in inFamousthen? Questions, questions…

Seems Kotaku has an article detailing Mike Fahey’s experience with our ‘muhmorpuhger’ The Chronicles of Spellborn at the Leipzig Games Convention.
Very nice (and welcome) words to read. Hearing ‘the egg’ worked will most definitely put a broad smile on the face of a certain colleague.
